Musing Mondays: Holiday Gifts

Here is this week's Musing Mondays from Just One More Page. Head on over there to see other answers and to read the full meme.

In these last few days before Christmas, I'm sure there are plenty of us scrambling to get our last minute shopping done. Are you buying any books for friends or family (or even yourself)? Do you expect to receive any bookish gifts from others - books, or book-related?

Absolutely doing books. And we've bought book gift cards too. I'm not going to list them because family and friends do come by my blog every once in a while! But I will say this: About 50 percent of our gifts are books or book cards.

Of course, I can't go into a bookstore without buying something for myself! Just last week my husband commented that the bookstore is the only store that I hate to leave. He's right.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem about not wanting to leave the bookstore. My husband has learned to just find a comfy place to sit and read while I browse. I think he's read whole books that way!

I bought books for my hubby, my son and my nephew. Oh yeah, and while I was at it, I got one for me too. :)

Bookstores really are the only stores I actually enjoy being in.

Cheers and merry holidays, Beth.

I always do books! They are the best gift ever, in my opinion. My kids are getting some, my husband as well, my dad, and the 92 year-old adopted grandma that has everything is getting some too! I also have gotten into making the bookmarks that are metal shephard's hooks with beads that hang off of them. All the teachers got those, as well as some of my friends.

Hello there :-) Looking forward to hear about the Christmas gifts AFTER Christmas. I am now at my parent's place but managed to sneak into the study to check mail and such. Have a great Holiday.

I do not expect to get any book-related gifts, they all know I love to read but I have yet to get a book as a gift, lol.

I love buying books -- my only fear is that I'm going to be gifting something my friend or family member read about six years ago, and I'm totally behind the times! :) I still bought books this year; I just made sure to get a gift receipt.

And I definitely got books for myself, too! Borders had an awesome coupon this weekend and I couldn't resist. Even though my TBR pile is threatening to take over every square inch of my house.

As much as I love books, I have trouble buying books for my mother because she works in a library. I feel like she's read everything already. And, surprisingly, she rarely buys me books.

Oh, but I would LOVE some giftcards to local bookstores. That would just be devine!

How I shop for gift books:

1. One book for gift.
2. One book for me as reward for being so thoughtful to buy the gift.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 as many times as needed.

Jlshall, Cali: There are worse "faults" to have!

Bermuda: Funny how those personal books just kinda jump into the bag.

Sandy: The bookmarks sound great! I think I've seen those hooks at the beading store.

Louise: glad you made to your parents' safely. Enjoy the holidays.

Lilly: you need to hint for gift cards!

Writemeg and your TBR stacks: you're not implying this is a problem are you?

Mrs. Shealy: I make sure I get those gift receipts too. It increases my buying confidence.

Michele: Sounds like a brilliant plan.

I finished my Christmas shopping during the first week of December. Some of my closest friends decide that we won't have exchange of gifts. But I mostly did the shopping online and have the retailers send the books to the recipients.

I don't have to jostle to the mall for gifts but I'm eying for a couple new coats and sweaters for myself! :)

I didn't post my response to this week's musing question because I've been talking about holiday sales and supporting the book industry this entire month. So I'll pass and read everyone else's answer.

At least your husband actually lets you in the shop in the first place. Not that I have a husband, but my family and friends have placed me on an offical bookstore ban... not that that stops me when they're not around. I figure what they don't know can't hurt them ;)

I hate to leave the book store too. I have never walked out of a bookstore empty-handed or with kust one book.

Rebecca: It's not like my husband hates the bookstore; he just likes to tease.

Nicole: It seems to be a common problem.

Matt: how smart are you? I love online shopping too. I'm not big on pushing my way through crowds and standing in line to pay. The bookstore is another matter entirely.
