Thursday Tea (May 14): No Angel by Penny Vincenzi

The Tea
This week I'm drinking Ceylon tea from Adagio Teas. They describe it this way: "bright and lively, with a wonderfully delicate flavor. . . . The perfect afternoon tea." As always, I drink it black and unsweetened. It's a nice basic tea.
The Book
I'm currently listening to a recommendation from my local library: No Angel by Penny Vencenzi. It is the first in the Lytton Family Trilogy and begins in 1904 with the marriage of the fabulously wealthy Lady Celia Beckenham to Oliver Lytton, whose father owns a publishing house in London. Naturally, Celia's family is not happy that she married beneath her. So far, I like the despcriptions of the publishing business at the turn of the century and seeing how Celia manages to find a place in that business, despite her husband's initial objections.
The Assessment
Celia grew up expecting the best of the best. But when she married for love, she had to make adjustments. Nevertheless, I'm sure her afternoon tea would not have been a common blend. Thus I think Ceylon might have been a good compromise for her.

I like the sound of that book! I'm in the middle of The Help (loving it) and drinking Cherry Coke Zero. My son was up all last night throwing up, so I needed the caffeine!
I love to see what tea you're drinking each week, even though I'm not much of a tea drinker. My favorite beverage is Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale which is only available in Alabama and parts of Georgia.
Sandy: I'm sooooo sorry to hear this. Poor guy. And poor you.
Kathy/Bermuda: I will have to look for Buffalo Rock. The only soda I like is ginger ale. Next time in the south, I'll check out the grocery stores.
As my current read is tomorrow´s bait-in-the-box review, I´ll use the one I just reviewed. I am at a famous & decadent party in Australia of the late 1920s so the only suitable drink is a colourful cocktail. Bright green with red and yellow fruit and a rainbow umbrella...

I'm drawn to the idea of hearing a little about publishing houses at the turn on the century...that sounds fascinating!
(drinking very strong kona coffee and reading "American Eve" about Evelyn Nesbitt...same time period roughly as you're in!)
I like the time period of this story and it sounds like a strong character as the lead. I'm working on my eight glasses of plain water early this morning.

Sounds like a great book. My Thursday Tea post is up as well. Is No Angel based on a real-life publishing family? I love historical fiction where I also feel like I'm learning along the way...

Michele: Ymmmmm I love Kona coffee. And the publishing information and the role of women in it are both really interesting.
Margot: I don't usually read about this time period, but The Luxe covers the same era. So I guess I'm a roll. Water is good for you.

I'm guessing this has nothing to do with the Lord Lytton who wrote "it was a dark and stormy night" and inadvertently inspired the contest for the worst opening line?
That book sounds like it might be interesting. I love the cover.
I keep looking at this series at the library. Yesterday was an iced green tea day, this morning it is hot tea! I am trying to finish Intent To Kill by James Grippando, it was due yesterday.
I loved this trilogy, hope you continue to enjoy it.
