BBAW: Spotlight Meme and Giveaway
Welcome to BBAW!! Here's today's meme:
The shortlists for the awards were announced on Monday, September 7. The first day of BBAW, Monday September 14, we encourage you to write a post thanking and spotlighting your favorite blogs that didn’t make the shortlists.
Like most of you, I have hundreds of blogs in my blogroll and reader combined. So I can't possibly spotlight every blog that visit on a regular basis. Instead I'm going to introduce you to three blogs that you should put in your reader.
Devourer of Books
♦ Category: Most Concise. "This blog gets its point across clearly and efficiently—it tells you just what you need to know."
♦ My thoughts: I appreciate that Jen gets right to the point, telling us exactly what she likes and doesn't like about a book. I always enjoy the personal touch she adds to her reviews.

Medieval Bookworm
♦ Category: Best History/Historical Fiction Blog. "This blog features the best reviews and specialized content on books about a time gone by."
♦ My Thoughts: Not only is Meghan a specialist in medieval history (she's minutes away from earning her master's degree) but she is well read and articulate in history in general. She is my go-to person for a well-rounded opinion in this genre.
♦ Sample reviews: King's Fool by Margaret Campbell Barnes, Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran, The Last Witch of Langenburg by Thomas Robisheaux
Farm Lane Books
♦ Category: Best Literary Fiction Blog. "This blog covers primarily literary fiction. The reviews are of a high caliber and get you to think on some of the deeper issues that literary fiction brings up."
♦ My Thoughts: To me, Jackie is the literary fiction queen. I know of no one else who sets out to read so many award-winning and -nominated books. And the good news is that she is not won over by the awards committees; she has her own well-thought-out opinions and isn't afraid to tell us.
♦ Sample Reviews: Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan, Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Stroud, The Invisible Mountain by Carolina De Robertis

The lace bookmark looks great- how clever you are to make it - I remember my grandmother doing fine lace work like that with lots of bead things attached to ends of thread.

I want to read "The Last Witch of Langenburg" because both Meghan and Jennifer of Literate Housewife read it sometime ago (in Spring, I think), and I've been dying to read it ever since, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I've read Belong to Me and The Last Witch of Langenburg. Both were really good. I have Olive Kitteridge on my MP3 player and have had a hard time getting into it. I need to push through because it sounds wonderful. I also HAVE to read King's Fool and Cleopatra's Daughter.

Olive Ketteridge is sitting in my TBR collection now. The whole idea of reading a novel set in short story format is intriguing. I've heard such great things about it. Cleopatra's Daughter is coming up soon in my immediate TBR pile. I'm in the mood for historical fiction. Oh and Wicked Lovely and Belong to Me are both books I am anxious to read. Oh, just give me a year of paid vacation from work and I'll spend all my time reading, please! Well, mostly. I'll have to blog too.
