Giveaway: The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha

Last month I featured Neil Pashricha's The Book of Awesome as part of the Amy Einhorn Challenge. Neil has a wonderful knack of noticing the little things that make life so great. I loved The Book of Awesome and have had a lot of fun sharing some of Neil's awesome moments with Mr. BFR, family, and friends. You might also remember that I mentioned I was going to hold a giveaway for signed copy of the book.

Neil came up with the great idea of for the contest: Each person who enters the giveaway must share one awesome moment because that's what The Book of Awesome is all about.

I'm excited to share with you Neil's awesome introduction to the giveaway:

Hi everybody,

Wow, thanks so much for featuring The Book of Awesome on Beth Fish Reads!

It's been a completely surreal dream for me to write about free, universal little things for the past two years. I am very honored that you've included me on your site and in the Amy Einhorn Challenge and I'd love to start the conversation here about awesome things! What's awesome to you in your life? What simple pleasures make you smile? Here are a few from the book!
  • When the cashier opens up a new lane at the grocery store. (Take about a major mood change in that lineup!)
  • Getting called up to the dinner buffet first at a wedding.
  • Fixing electronics by smacking them. (This works great on the CD player in my car. Smack, smack, smack away.)
  • Waking up and realizing it's Saturday.
  • The last day of school. (Is it just me or did it always seem like the teachers were even more excited?)
I also want to add a new one: "Being featured on Beth Fish Reads!" Thanks so much, everybody. Hope you all have a very AWESOME day!

Neil
Awwwww! Thanks Neil! Here are two of mine:
  • Hearing the UPS truck coming down the street and realizing it's stopping in front of your house.
  • Going to the office supply store for printer paper and coming home with a pack of cool pens in fun colors.
Here's all you have to do to enter this fun giveaway: Tell us one awesome thing and leave your email address. I'll use a random number generator to pick the winner when I turn on my computer on May 7 (say, 5:30 AM EDT).

For more on The Book of Awesome, see my earlier feature post and visit Neil Pasricha's award-winning blog 1000 Awesome Things. (As I said in March: once you start reading Neil's blog, you'll be there for hours.)

I'll leave with just one more: Hosting an international giveaway for a signed book: AWESOME!

This book sounds awesome! I love the giveaway idea. Of course, I too love the sound of the Fedex and UPS trucks stoppping in front of my house with packages (I can even hear the difference in the trucks!) But I think another awesome thing is when I receive a package with a book that I wasn't expecting!

Another awesome thing is when my kids say something special to me. An example would be when one of them tells me that I'm a great mom!

Clicking on the envelope icon and discovering that my new, unread mail is NOT spam. Extra bonus when I see it's been diverted to my "Friends" folder, because then I know it's something good!

Amy 4/26/10, 8:21 AM

I can think of a few:

* Getting your vacation request to attend BEA and BBC APPROVED!
* Random visits from friends.
* When normally reserved cats start acting like kittens again.
* When a cat snuggles up to you at night.

I agree with FedEx/UPS, but the best for me are::
-when Daniel is uber smiley
-when Daniel 'teaches' us how to do things like splash in the bathtub or play the keys on the piano.

Sorry, I'm going saccharine here.

It is awesome to wake up every morning, look at the wonderful man beside me, and feel thankful all over again that he is my husband.

How to only name one? The smell of fresh-cut grass. Winning a giveaway (hint hint). When I help a child find the perfect book at the library.

I love the little introduction the author wrote for you!

It's awesome to get a phone call from an old friend who you haven't talked to in a while.

I was intrigued by this book from the earlier review. A few awesome things:
Getting only green lights when driving somewhere.
Turning on the radio and hoping to hear a particular song and that song is playing.

Those few moments after the alarm goes off the first time, but you know you can hit snooze and snuggle up closer to your mate and enjoy that half-dozing place where you're aware of them but still "sleeping" - fully awesome.

Thanks for hosting; I just discovered the Awesome blog a couple of weeks ago and love it!

Shanon 4/26/10, 12:44 PM

When I see my 2-year-old nephew each week, and as I walk into the room each time, he shouts, "Shanon!" and drops whatever he is doing to give me a giant hug.

It makes my whole week.

Heather 4/26/10, 3:29 PM

My kids are awesome. The crazy things they say are awesome. My husband is (most of the time) awesome *wink*. And my blogging friends, they are all made of awesome!

I agree that Neil's blog is addictive. Now that I'm caught up, I subscribed and read it in my reader.

One of my awesome things:
My youngest granddaughter giving me an unsolicited hug and saying, "Oh, Nana, I love the way you smell."

I've got two:

Seeing a friend walk up to you with something in their hands and realizing it's an unexpected gift for you.

Logging onto your blog and seeing that you have comments!

What a lovely idea (and a great giveaway!). I'm all for awesome :)

Sitting outside in the mornings with that first cup of coffee.
Seeing that the family of cardinals have come back again for the summer.
Going to the library to pick up a bunch of holds and being so thrilled at the selection.

Very fun giveaway!

Jenners 4/26/10, 8:29 PM

I just love the ones you featured ... I can't argue with any of them. Here are some of mine:

* Realizing it is Saturday morning and I get to go to back to bed for some sweet sweet sleep because of my sweet sweet husband.

* When the hummingbirds come back after being away all winter and spring (I'm expecting them ANY day now)

* When my son doesn't pull away his hand right away after we're out of the parking lot (getting rarer though!)

Holly 4/26/10, 8:55 PM

Awesome things:

- Thinking my (not-quite-two-month-old) nephew is about to cry, then seeing him smile delightedly instead.

- Browsing the "new books" section at the library and finding a book that has been getting rave reviews on blogs & on Amazon.com (scored Major Pettigrew's Last Stand just last week!).

- Seeing the light turn green just as you are coming up on a red light.

neil is so funny! i loved his blurb and list of awesomes!

a few of my favorite 'awesomes'?

*snow days from school (and i'm a teacher!)
*getting upgraded to business class on a flight without wheedling or cajoling anyone

Mystica 4/28/10, 9:17 AM

Opening the package to see whats inside even though you know you won books is pretty awesome. Specially for overseas winners because such competitions are so few!!! I love the feeling when you tear open the envelope and try to get through the bubble wrap!

Vic | UPrinting Coupons 4/28/10, 7:13 PM

Sweet! This book definitely show us how to appreciate the small things that makes our day great. Here are two awesome things that I want to share.

- Having enough time and inspiration to paint or write a short poem

- The scent of ocean breeze on a very rare cheap island hopping escapade.

Alice 5/2/10, 6:28 AM

This book sounds awesome!

For me, it's awesome when the receptionist at my office calls to inform that there's a package awaiting me at the lobby, or when the office dispatch comes to my room and gives me my package (they're mostly books, by the way). Totally awesome.

Facebook is awesome! I love it when my friends comment on my posts/status updates, or click "like." Absolutely made my day.

And if I win this book, it'll be even awesome-er! LOL. Good luck to all!

Something awesome? Well being able to read without interruptions from my kids. But I also love the interruptions from my kids.

One of what I consider the simple joys in life, or as Neil would say, the awesome things in life, is opening up a new jar of peanut butter. I love how smooth it is on top, and how it stays smooth around where you dig some out.

Awesome is when I think I have no time to read but then I'm stuck somewhere (like a waiting room) with a book!

Jen Forbus 5/6/10, 12:23 PM

Oh I had a very big awesome in April when I got to meet my online friend Elyse for the very first time.

And another big awesome would be when Robert Crais remembered who I was after only meeting me once before. Huge!

And last, but by no means least because it made my day, having my boss bring me a hot chocolate when she stopped for her coffee on the way in to work. She's awesome!

Mona 5/7/10, 1:28 AM

Awesome is when someone is in v-fib, you shock them once and get a rhythm back.
